Scott Kerrison vant 12-timers i MuuWell Hot Rod Ultra i Bowling Green (Kentucky)

A successful return to Bowling Green, Kentucky at the MuuvWell Hot Rod Ultra this weekend.

I managed to run 246 laps of the ball park, fully 30 more than I ran last year, giving just over 76 miles. Perhaps the most positive outcome was that I actually ran almost the entire time this year; admittedly with a little more walking later on with the excuse that I wanted to make sure I got the gels and drinks in (not that this had been a problem while running faster earlier on). And an unhappy ankle appeared after around 9 or 10 hours in (which I had been fearing from the first step after troubles the last couple of weeks), forcing a bit of walking to make sure it felt okay to keep going.

And despite that, the winning margin over the next best result ended up being just 2 laps - even less than the margin last year.

I fell slightly short of my pre-race goal of 3 marathons back-to-back, but not by much. My pacing was again off compared to my plan, but felt a bit better than my 6 hour race 5 weeks ago, though still with plenty of room for improvement. And I regret a little deciding not to stop in at the gas station to get a bag of ice on the way to the start, despite the conditions being much cooler than the previous 2 years.

But all-in-all, a good day out, and a good reminder of the coming 24 hour challenge in less than 2 months. Time to try and recover now, and then build up again.
